Correct oil check procedure?

No this is not a joke there is a current argument between me and some co-workers( and management) on the correct oil check procedure for the 2016 Ford F650 with the 6.7 Powerstroke. The owners manual says to bring the engine to normal operating temperature, then shutdown, wait 15 minutes and then check the oil. Logically this makes no sense. My argument is the Ford procedure puts the engine at risk and my coworkers are trying to tell me not to check it before starting it, like I would any other engine on the planet. And I am dead serious it is printed in the 2016 F650 manual to start the engine bring it to normal operating temperature and then check the oil after 15 minutes shut down.

I am looking for some input from a Ford certified diesel technician on this subject. Please post a picture of your credentials with your response. Thanks

Check it before you start it to make sure there's oil in it (I'm assuming that's your concern) and then do the proscribed owner's manual check to make sure it's within the spec.

Oh, and you'd be better off posting this in the 6.7L diesel forum.
