oil check
has anyone had a hard time checking there oil level. I can not get a good reading. it shows over full but is hard to tell how much. even after changing the oil and adding 15 quarts it is hard to tell how much is on the dip stick.

I have had luck checking oil level in the 6.4 Diesel but it takes a bit of patience to get an accurate reading. After the oil and filter change and adding the 15 US quarts of oil start the engine to check for oil leaks. Then shut down the engine for 20 minutes. This allows all of the oil in the engine to drain down into the sump. Using the dipstick , take a reading. The highest oil level on the front or rear of the dip stick is your accurate reading.
You can always check the oil level after shut down in your yard as long as the engine is shut down for the 20 minute period to let the oil drain into the sump before checking the accurate oil level.
