HELP Inside door lock handle spring repalcement HOW TO?

I have the entire mechanism out and a new "S type" replacement spring as mine has been missing for years. I also know how it should be properly placed via pictures on this site and by looking at my drivers door mech. My new spring is an exact match to the one on the drivers remote inside door lock handle.

Can anyone describe how to install it? I am having issues working it in there and I don't want to force it, or maybe I should be more forceful? I also don't want to unbend the 4 tabs the hold the post in place and risk breaking it unless I have to.

Ideas/Instructions appreciated.

My drivers side works great, just need to get this spring in place so the passenger side so it is works as it should.

Thanks.

Bryan

I took mine apart. Bend the tabs. If they break, tack weld it.

Be aware that many of the springs sold for the inside release are the wrong shape and require rework to even touch the cam. Compare Scotty's picture above with an original (also Scotty's pic); you can see you the original is more pointed where it touches the cam, vs. the rounded repro.

Thanks I obtained a NOS spring, I got it replaced however I was very careful and all the tabs still broke off. I will now be looking for some one to spot weld it for me. I appears it will work like new once welded

You may also need to weld up the detent and reshape it if it is heavily worn. Make sure it is all working properly before you weld it up.
