Duraspark III Crankshaft Position Sensor Testing

Got a crank no start in the 83 F250 (351W). Wanting to check my CPS. any one know what the ohms reading should be..getting .333 with meter set at 20k. And what number should I get when testing voltage? Its a 50$ part so I'd like to make sure it is bad before I put it on and it not fix the problem.

Thanks.

From what I read, it may be 100-640 ohm sensor.

The only V-ref, I have seen is the EEC-III version, 9v.

Thanks..its a magnetic sensor and everything I saw online told me to use a multimeter set to AC and move something metal in front of it. The info was not specific to my truck but there is not much on the EEC-III in my manuals and nothing on a CPS. So i did the test and got nothing.. then tested with sensor on the truck, cranked the engine, still got nothing.
I ordered the part and am going to test mine against the new one in the store when it comes in.

I read something about the sensor sends a 1v sign wave (AC).

Also there is a measurement for distance I believe, so that you are close enough for it to work.

So if you have the EEC computer as well as the DuraSpark III, then 9v is the Ref Voltage on CP+ wire (Dark Blue?) on the engine harness side.

But, I think from your other post, someone said you would not get spark if the CPS has failed. I believe you stated you were getting spark.

When you get done with this CPS issue, I recommend you continue on your original post.....

Thanks for all the good info...I got a new one in and it read a bit higher resistance but I could not get the new one to emit a voltage so I'm guessing mine is fine..so I kept my old one.

Were you able to verify the 9 Volt Ref @ the connector?

The CPS is used by the EEC-III computer to control the timing, so be sure it is working and adjusted properly.
