How has it been determined where the timing advances "under load"?

Maybe "under load" was a bad choice of words. I have a timing light with an advance dial so I check the timing conditions under idle as well as (in neutral) at approx half throttle.

That's what I figured. If you can get the wife in the engine bay with a timing light cruising down the highway, that'll work though

Haha. If she wasn't 8 weeks away from our second daughter the request might go over a little better...or since she is pregnant, if I tell her ice cream is at the end of the tunnel she might just anyways 👍

I was looking up using the later (up to 1980) electronic distributor. Rockauto has them for cheap. Look up under Fairmont. Seems pretty straight forward. The later distributor eliminates the points and works with an electronic ignition module.
