I just bought an E99 that has been sitting in storage for just shy of 7 years. I have recently replaced batteries, trac bar, brake lines, and air filter. Ive finally started it and it's taking around 10 seconds to start. I'm thinking maybe the glow plugs are shot? I have not put new fuel in it, nor have a changed the oil or any fuel filter. If anyone can point in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.
If you have the correct voltmeter, you can use the clip to put it round the wire to the GPR and see the current draw. Alternatively there is a way to ohm out the glow plugs through the UVCH I believe. I'm not sure of the procedure but I've seen it on the forum somewhere - good luck
After sitting that long you should change fluids and filters just on general principles. It is going to want that much at least. After seven years just sitting in a barn or out side any number of things/critters could be messing things up.
It's going to be tough to nail down unless/until you can hook to it and read the sensors. If you have an Android phone you can use a bluetooth adapter, if you're on a iPhone you'll need a wifi adapter. Then you can download a cheap app that will do the trick.
Definitely change oil & at least add some 911 additive to the fuel. Then see how she starts. How cold is it where you are ? Glow plugs really only come into play in colder ambient temps so if its above 40* I wouldn't worry about the gp's. After sitting that long the oil is problly like sludge.
