can you swap basic stereo for sync 3?
So I'm truck shopping, and I really want a 2017 power stroke with the big screen in the dash. I believe this is the "sync 3", or maybe the "productivity screen".
This seems to be an expensive and somewhat hard to find upgrade among the XLs and XLTs. I've found some decent deals on pre owned trucks, but never with the bigger screen.
Can I swap stereos after purchase? I realize I won't have all the cameras that some trucks have, but it seems like the backup camera should swap from the smaller screened unit to the sync 3 unit. same for steering wheel controls, mic, etc.
Anyone tried this? Thanks.

Ooohhh... So the productivity screen is the big screen behind the steering wheel with the gauges? I'd given up on that, as I've only seen it in lariats and higher. I think out of my price range.
Do I understand correctly that you installed this yourself? That sounds great.

I have found a few loaded up XLs/STXs on lots with 8" sync 3 touch screen.
If you go to build and price..... Start with crew cab - 6 3/4' bed - 6.2L - 4x4......... Then add STX + power equipment + ultimate camera + sync 3 = $43865 msrp. Great base set up .... then add a few items if you want to that. Don't forget the upfitter switches.

Yea, I test drove an STX with ultimate tow package. I actually liked it a lot. But I'm looking for a diesel, and that put the truck over $49k.
I'm seeing some used XLTs for $5k less. Great deals, but none have had the 8" display. If the 8" unit and bezel can be installed, it opens up some opportunities.

This may be pushing it but I found this one....... New 2017 Ford F-250 For Sale Crosby TX Vehicle VIN: 1FT7W2BT5HED56958
But... I found a used f350 xlt 4x4 diesel for under $42k. Almost exactly what I'm looking for, except no sync 3.
Seems hard to believe that no one has attempted this swap, but I can't find anything on the forum. Anyone have info?

Although $3000 and 4 out of 5 difficulty level is a bit disheartening. Now I see why more people aren't doing this. I'd hoped it was more plug and play.
