need help on windshield wiper switch

I ordered a new switch but before I install it I need some help.

My Yellow wire is currently run to ground under the emergency brake. (Like someone else here noted theirs was in previous thread) The power was run to the Stand alone post.

The wiring diagram shows the yellow to the ignition

The old switch wiring worked until a new wiring harness was installed , now blows fuses when hooked up. Looks to me like a dead short thru the "fifth" stand alone and the yellow to ground. But it worked before

On the 1966 - five prong one speed wiper switch, are others here yellow wire go to ground? Or do NONE- go to ground.

Thanks for any input. I have the wiring diagram but don't understand the operation of the switch. don't want to burn the new switch by changing the wiring

Don't have a single speed but the 2 speeds have only one wire connected to the center post on the ignition switch. You shouldn't need a ground since everything should be grounded thru the wiper motor. The problem is you never know what has been swapped around on one these things. And the wire colors are anybody's guess. The only one I have that I think is original, it's dated Jan 1965, has a green/ orange spiral wire for the power in.

thanks CD This definitely has been swapped around. By "center post" do yo mean the stand alone post in the center ( not marked with wire color in my photo) I was told that this was for window washer motor when switch is "pushed" in making contact on my late 1966.

That is the one used for power on the existing - but I think its backfeeding and perhaps burned the old one.

My wiring diagram shows power to the black (On the extreme right in the picture)

I'm referring to the center post on the ignition switch as the power source. I'm assuming you have the correct harness and plug for the switch. If not the red wire coming out of the motor is usually the main power wire and the others are for the park switch. I haven't messed with a 66 single speed switch but on most switches the washer circuit is a stand alone circuit and has no connection to the wiper function. Just looking at your switch I'm going to guess that two of those pins are only for the washer circuit, you should be able to isolate them with an ohmmeter. Sorry I can't be more help.

What year is the truck? Did it originally come with single speed or two speed wipers?

If you have the old switch, it will be marked with an ID number. Post what it is.

C3TZ-17A553-G .. Wiper Switch-Use with Ford single speed wiper motor - 5 terminals / Marked: C3TA-17A553-G (Motorcraft SW-722) / Obsolete

1963/66 F100/600 // No Ford dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any.

There's another single speed 5 terminal switch but it was only used on 1963/66 E100's.

An FTE member bought one for his 1966 F250 (good humor ice cream truck), said he made it work, but another member bought one for his 1963/66 F100, said it wouldn't work.

hi ND I was away for a few days. the switch is in my 1966 and I think it was original. part #17A553G1. the molded connector Has a black, red, and green wire to the motor and a Yellow wire running to ground under the emergency brake bracket. Power went to a fifth post that I understood from your post was for washer power.

my wiring diagram clearly shows the yellow is power and should not go to ground.-- but it worked?

I changed the entire wiring harness-disconnected old power from 5th post and connected new power to fifth post and POP fuse blows. I'm frustrated go to wiring diagram and it NEVER should have worked. Now I wire it like the diagram - and nothing works.
I have checked the switch and it is working. (and have a spare) I put power directly to the Green and the motor ran without stopping put it to the red and it parked - I think. Now reapply power to the green or black- Nothing and can not get the motor to bump at all
really frustrated and not thinking clearly

Wiper

These pics are of a 2 speed motor and switch that came out of a 65 F250. As you can see the Green/Orange spiral is the power wire and it is paired with the Red wire at the plug. My diagram also shows Yellow as power. But there isn't a yellow wire in that harness. I think that the number that ND was looking for was the complete number on the switch, also the number off of the motor might be helpful.

Thanks bill for the info -but as in my post I have an extra switch. Its the wiring I don't understand. Cropduster, I also appreciate you trying to help this old frustrated guy, and I think your pictures would help, but I can't open them. Time for a cocktail

And again I'll try tomorrow

should have a Yellow wire from the back center post of the ignition switch ( accessary / run ) to the power in of the wiper switch , a red , green and black wire out to the wiper motor . the red and green are the run wires for the motor and the black wire should go to a separate plug for the "park" to stop the wipers in the correct location at the bottom of the windshield . Usually an orange wire runs from the terminal on the " box" at the back of the wiper switch out to the washer pump under the hood . Hope this helps on what wire goes where .
