Hey, Anyone know where I can view a wiring diagram on-line?
Or can anyone tell me where what is hooked up to the wiper switch in a 66 f-100 and where the white wire goes (ground maybe). Thanks
You can wiring diagrams in the Parts Shop right here through Motor Haven. There's also a cool little company you can find at:
htp://www.ClassicCarWiring.com
They produce color wiring diagrams on laminated 8 1/2 x 11 paper stock. One side has front of vehicle, and the other displays behind the firewall to the rear of vehicle. Nice to have one sheet, in accurate color display, and laminated so you can wipe the dirt off when your done.
As for the wiper wiring, you should have 3 wires red, black and green that run between the switch and the wiper motor. The only other wire is a power feed to the switch. My wiring diagram displays the wiring running from the switch to the constant voltage unit on the back of the instrument panel. In my trucks, all the power feeds are connected to the accessory position of the ignition switch.
What year trucks do you have? I hooked a switched 12v circuit to the wiper switch, it comes on, but will not turn off. Could you explain that?? There is also a white wire with a round terminal, like a bolt goes through it, is this the ground? Even with that wire grounded to the body, the switch stays on. Anyway thanks for the help, Mike
The wiper continues to run after it is turned off at the switch because the parking circuit switch in the motor is shot. You have choices. Replace the motor, upgrade to a two speed motor or upgrade to a two speed with delay wipe.
William, cool info on the motor. Do you have more info about possible donor vehicles with compatible 2 spd. w/delay wiper motors? I'd like to put one in my 66 f250.
Ford moved the wiper motor to the cowel in the engine compartment in the late 70's. Prior to that the motors were in the same location as the ones in our 66's. The engine compartment cowel mount motors will not swap, all previous 4 wire motors will and are the same as ours. The variable govornor from any pickup into the 90's and the big switch will work. The switch needs modification and a new ****. Other than these minor adjustments its a bolt in deal. I plan to do a technical article but I've been busy lately. There is an article for later trucks on this site check that out for useful info. I build a little kit if you don't want to dig through the Junk Yard. Send me an e-mail off line.
