Universal garage door opener

Has anyone had any experience adding the Universal garage door opener to a 2017 Super Duty yet? My XLT is coming in sometime this week and that is one of the first mods that I want to make (for some reason you cant order the universal garage door opener on XLT models). I read a post awhile back that a guy showed step by step instructions, but I cant find it to save me now, besides, I think it was for the previous generation SD, not sure if anything has changed on that or not with the new model.

If anyone has parts #'s that is needed and directions/advice, I would greatly appreciate it.

I'd think about that one long and hard before going through the expense and trouble. I ordered the factory garage door opener, however, have the clip-on opener that came with the garage door right next to it. Many people have found that the factory openers on these trucks are fairly frustrating. I have trouble getting it to work sitting inside the garage right under the opener. When outside the garage I have to hit it 5-7 times to get it to close, and it will only work if I'm right up to the door. The openers that came with the door will work from 100 yards away. I even put a larger antenna on the opener. It didn't help any. It's way under powered.

I had an 2010 F150 with the opener and I must have tried 100 times to get the truck to sync up and work with the opener and never could get it to work. So when I ordered my 250 that will be here in about a week or so I didn't even bother. Besides, my truck won't fit in the garage anyway.

I didn't even mention that part of the frustration. I was a pain to get programmed.

Same problem on my 2015. Dealer came to the house tried to make it work and said it was a bad unit. He ordered a new visor and I was in business.

I have tried to pair mine with my garage for almost 2 hours, no success. I gave up on it.

next to worthless

took several attempts to program the opener on our 2017, and it only works when you are literally right against the door, but it does work

I found a good used visor from a 2015 F-150 on eBay for $65. Since I have lighted vanity mirrors, it was plug and play. I was able to easily program both of my garage door openers, following the instructions in the manual, and by pushing the "Learn" button on the door opener when programming. My door opener has a range of at least 100ft, which is to the end of my driveway.

While I COULD have just used the clip on door opener, I decided I wanted the visor buttons instead and didn't want to pay the new price from the dealer for a visor.

If your dealers any good they'll send someone out to your house like mine did. My dealers is about 15 miles away but for the price of the vehicles and your good will they shouldn't have a problem doing it. On my wife's car there was a misprint in the manual.

The UGDO in my 2012 isn't compatible with my LiftMaster. Totally different protocol. I would have to buy an electronic "translator" to put on my garage wall to make it work. Some of you may have the same problem. Why order the option when you aren't even sure it will work? Guess it isn't so universal. The UGDO doesn't work from our Audi either. LiftMaster sucks . . . .
.
The UGDO on both vehicles worked fine in our previous house with a Chamberlain opener.

In 2012, Ford used a product made by Leer called Car2U. It indeed needed a repeater to work with MANY doors including my Liftmasters which I never bothered with. It certainly wasn't worthy of the name "universal." However, in 2014/2015 or so, Ford went to Homelink like most other manufacturers which is a far superior system. Mine works flawlessly on three different brand of openers from as far away as I need to be.

Swapped my visor out with an f150 and programmed all in about 20 mins. Works better than the clicker that came with the openers!
