Fuel Selector Valve

Fuel Selector Valve
Hi, Im helping my son work on a 1992 F350 with a 7.3L diesel in it. He isnt getting any fuel up to the injection pump. I went back to the fuel selector valve and put 12v across the pins that are supposed to open the valve to the rear tank and then reversed the leads to get it to switch to the front tank and the valve is not clicking or moving. I went ahead and started removing the clips and fuel lines to replace it and a flood of fuel started coming out of the lines from the tanks. Is there a trick to replacing this valve without first draining the tanks? Maybe crimp the fuel lines? Thanks

Ok thanks for the information. I was looking at new valves for this truck and found a generic 6 port valve but the ports are not in the same locations as the stock valve. Does anyone have any experience with these type valves? I guess it would work if the formed ends on the stock lines with 90 degree fittings on them have enough give to them to reach the location of the ports?
