The W in 4R70W stands for wide ratio. It doesn't stand for anything in the AODE because it isn't there.
how can everyone keep saying there is no AODE/W? A simple Google search when I had the same question got me the answer. It is a strengthened aode with lower first and second gear ratios.

You're right, wikipedia is much more knowledgeable than someone that worked there at the time. [/sarcasm] Carry on.
I got this information from actual mechanics who really know what they are talking about at my local transmission shop. Wikipedia just the only place I can find it in writing online but either way I would take whatever Wikipedia has to offer over somebody who is obviously blind and says it doesn't even exist. They posted a pic of the tag and I also have a truck with AODE/W So it obviously exists!
I get my information from being an actual Ford Motor Company automatic transmission engineer from 1988-2007. I worked there when this trans was being produced. You're welcome to believe what you want.
There was AOD, then AODE, then 4R70W. I think the confusion comes in when the AODE was about to change to the 4R70W. Before it was released the 4R70W was called AODEW. Before it went to production SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) introduced a common transmission naming convention. Ford adopted this and the AODEW was changed to 4R70W.
So now you admit it does exist? You need to figure out what you want to say and then just do one reply instead of this back and forth. We can debate what the AODE/W was all day long but this all started because you said it didn't even exist which now you say it did. I think you're confused. Either way I'm done with this conversation have a good day.

Hi, sorry to hijack thread, bot noone ssems to know answers that im looking for.
Friend of mine have sn95 mustang, with aode, he also have 351w from econoline, that was mated with e4od, can we use 351 ecm with aode, or controlls are totally different between aode and e4od?
Its very difficould to get any parts in poland, one for the other continent, second, most people here preffer(i dont know why) 3rd gen f-body...
This thread is almost 2 years old, I would start a new one. No, the 351 E4OD ECM will not work with the AODE. You could get a tuner, and hack the harness, but that would be more problematic I would think.
Start a new thread with your exact problem/questions.
