2011 Escape Fan Switch Issue

Hi Guy's
does anyone know why the fan selector switch only works on 4?
also why would the radiator fan come on instantly when you start the engine and select defrost.

Probably your fan speed resistor is toast. Fan comes ON because your A/C comes ON also to defog your windshield.

is that something i would have to take it to a dealor to have repaired?

Replacing the resistor is an easy job for any shade tree or driveway mechanic.

The radiator fan behavior you described is completely normal.

Go to your nearest Ford dealer and request for Motorcraft part number YH-1715 for your replacement blower motor resistor and replace it yourself. Here is a pictorial of its location that can be easily accessed by simply opening the glove box.

Removal and Installation
Lower the glove compartment.
Disconnect the blower motor resistor electrical connector.
Remove the 2 blower motor resistor screws.
To install, tighten to 3 Nm (27 lb-in).
Remove the blower motor resistor.
To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Guys I was able to get the fan resister replaced with no problems, Thank you for the help.
