I recently asked a question about why the catalogs list a door-side weatherstrip in addition to the door frame weatherstrip. I was told that it was an option or upgrade to standard sealing. What I want to know is how does this compare to the 92-97 no-glue weatherstrip as far as sealing? Would brand new later model stuff be better than brand new 73-79 stuff? Everything I've heard so far is people saying there's an improvement over their old worn out stuff. I want to know which would be better to buy for my build.
I put 94 in mine recently. Easy install. I got it from a pick n pull. It looked in really good condition. I woulnd't think you could tell the difference from brand new.
It seems to be slightly thicker than the old stuff that was partially falling down. The driver door seems to need just a slight more push to close. I made no adjustments to this door.
The passenger door had been replaced and needed adjusting anyway. When I replaced the seals I adjusted the door. It closes much better than before the adjustment but I would say still a little more push to close.
I don't hear air coming in thru the door seals. I do hear air in thru the vent windows.
I'd go to the newer seals just to not have to deal with all the door seal goop.
The only down side is flattening the seal along the floor and getting the trim to cover it. But really no big deal.
From what I understand the 92-97 is a no glue seal due to metal in the seam that "clamps" to the cab edge. Hit a local JY to ck it out before buying new.
Also it is way thicker on the bottom edge, so you have to trim that part off to get is to work under your aluminium trim piece.
