Top of the door, NOT the cab, is there at least a piece of the old to ck direction? They are glued on with weatherstripping adhesive and I think.... maybe the flat edge goes on the side facing the cab?
But now I have been looking in every truck pic with the door open and no luck of an actual one but I feel stronger that it goes the other way, that would be door seal to cab seal.

Im not sure which direction yet, but at least now I know where they go. I dont even see any glue remnants on the top of the door.
btw, how does it run? just over top of doors, or all the way down the front of door, over the top, and whats left trim off?
Here's how I did it and it has a great seal. No more leaking or wind noise at ALL. Good luck!
Glad they sealed up good but it looks like you mounted them to far away. Originally they were right up against the top edge of the door. I remounted mine in the factory location. OP the taper goes toward the door jamb.
I originally thought thats how they went but taped them on and closed the door and i could see light though the gap between the door and cab, so i moved them out to where they are now. Oh well
This thread answered a question I have been meaning to ask ... I figured that FORD added the extra seal on the door top to cut potential wind noise. I had seen it on a wrecked '79 once but thought then was an owner install as my '77 never had it. I maybe seen on others and just didn't take notice? I was looking today, see that it was used on '78 and '79 for noise reduction, but I was thinking it would be glued nearer the outer side nearer the lip, but not so sure now. Anybody know for sure ? I know, last post is 2013 but hey ... trucks are a lot older too.
My 78 f150. Judging by the condition they are original. They’re shot but I’ll be painting soon. It’s dark. If you need better pics I can get them tomorrow.
