Explorer package options

I recently found and bought a 1979 F250 and it is one with the Explorer package. My truck is a cream color with orange stripes, but I have seen some 1979 Explorers with different colors and even one with multi-color stripes, which I didn't think the 1979 had.

Is there a way to figure out what exactly the 79 Explorer came with? I have found some Explorer brochures online, but I can't seem to find one for 1979. I'd love to know what the different color options (for truck and stripes) were and which specific options came with the package (e.g. AC, etc.).

I have a 73 f100 explorer. As far as I know mine was grabber blue with white stripes and it had the navy vinyl interior with blue stripped inserts. It does have disk brakes, power steering , radio with a dash speaker but thats all I know. You can see my album to see what mine looks like after I took it to bare metal and painted it.

For 1979 the Explorer stripe came in two colors, either tangerine/gold or white/gold. The trucks built at the Michigan truck plant used the same color combinations but the stripe was slightly different and carried a different part number.
There were four different Explorer packages, A, B, C, or D depending on what options you wanted. The "D" option included the factory camper topper and when you ordered that, the box rails (which were part of all Explorer packages) were deleted. The "D" option wasn't available on the short bed.
When you ordered the Explorer on a short bed, you got eight tie down cleats, three on each side and two on the tailgate, instead of the box rails.
The Explorer option included several paint colors that were exclusive to the Explorer. The interior was also exclusive to the Explorer. Also, the stripe design changed every year.
If you want to find out how your truck was equipped when it left the factory, and a lot more info on your particular truck, get a "Marti Report".

Dang, if only you could see one that was showroom new, maybe one with just a few miles on it. But that's crazy talk.

Thanks for the info Mike. I have read other posts talking about the tangerine/gold or white/gold (maybe by you?), but what confused me is that my stripes are entirely orange (tangerine?). They aren't two colors unless the 2nd color is completely gone and left no trace of itself. I've also seen some other 79s posted online that do not have two-color stripes.

Rogue, I did see the pictures of the supposed 188-mile truck. Looks like it had gold/white stripes. Doesn't tell me what all the other Explorer options would have been, though.

I bet you'd be pretty safe to go by what is shown for the '78 Explorer, equipment-wise. That low-mile example looks to have Explorer Packages C and D, with sliding windows on the topper, and Super Soft vinyl instead of the Explorer cloth.

I'm in the same boat as the OP. Spent a fair amount of time looking for a '79 brochure, but all I can find is the '78 online. I have a '79 F-150 Custom Explorer and it would be nice to see what exactly was part of that package and what was added on in addition.

I wonder how often the explorer package ended up on F250's with D60 front.
