I'm about to install a Undercover swing case and my locking cable mechanicism is in the way. I've taken everything off besides one bolt completely dead middle of the reel. I don't see how in the world you get to this bolt at all without destroying the reel. Any input?
I'd like to keep the bed lock cable in-tact so i can install it in the front. any help would be apprecaited.
It's a pain in the butt! Had the Ford dealer Service and Parts Depts. going nuts trying to figure out how to take it off to prep for my bedliner. (I actually have the PDF Ford instructions on my work computer - I can post it on Monday.) I did this two years ago and I'm a bit fuzzy on it. (I seem to remember that it was a Torx head bolt?) Anyway, here's my best recollection:
Take the side cover off of the cable reel, so you can see. (It may help to wear an LED head lamp to get light where you need it.)
I got a 1/4" drive (Torx?) bit and kludged up about an 10" or 12" long drive extension for it. You need the 1/4" drive to be able to fit through the access space in the cable reel.
Extend the Cable all of the way out, so that there's no more left on the spool - otherwise you can't see the head of the bolt.
Lay down in the bed and literally look into the opening where the cable comes out. Look through the (now empty) cable channel in the take-up reel and you'll be able to see the mounting bolt all the way at the back.
Tease your (Torx) bit with the extensions through the cable opening, in between two sides of the empty take-up reel cable channel. Keep going all the way back through the spool, into the head of the (Torx) Bolt. If I remember, the bolt has fine-pitch threads and it's about 2 inches long, so it takes forever to get it out.....
That was the easy part! Trying to put Security Reel back on is worse! It's nearly impossible to line up the bolt to the Ford threaded mounting holes - I stripped it and had to ream it out.
Hope this helps.

I use my Cable and need it at the back, so I only installed a Swing Case on the right-hand side of my bed.
Glad I could help... it took me several hours over a weekend to figure out how to do it. (I was getting real close to cutting that "hidden" bolt off with my Sawz-all, and then I finally extended the cable and looked inside.)
That Monday, after I already had it figured out, the dealer finally found the instructions.

I'd prefer to install master lock's locking tie-down than this big hunk of metal. Which i am once it comes in from Amazon.
I was also on the verge of just cutting the hell out of it. Now it just sits in my garage. BTW, if anybody wants one; PM me!
I just found this post because I want to remove the Work Solutions cable lock from my 2011 F-150 and hopefully install it in my new 2025 F-150 because I have not found something like this on the market. Your attachment only had pages 3 and 4. If you see this, can you provide pages 1 and 2?
Thanks!
