Throttle Cable

What kind of throttle linkage is my 66 suppose to have? I have a cable running to the autolite 2bbl on a 352. the cable seems long, but basicly looks stock. I can't find a listing for a cable, though. everything I have seen listed is hard linkage for this year.

Your '66 should use a cable type throttle linkage. That is stock as far as I know. Seems like the hard linkage appeared in the early to mid '70's?

Boy funny you should mention this, i ran into the same problem, my local ford dealer located one somewhere back east for like 68.00 ,i needed it now not then and thats a lot of gas money , my solutuion, I went to a local bassboat dealer and ordered a minnkota Maxum 74 foot control cable ( their are 2 but you only need one ) I took the cable and cut it in two ( both ends have a ball on them) I then removed the cables from their housings, and, took the insides out of the old cable ( mounted on the firewall ) I went to the local autoparts store and under the "Help" Section found a box of differant sized cable fasteners ( round ones with screews going into them and a hole drilled to put the cable tru.), I also took a stainless steel bolt 1/4 20 and driled a hole in it just big enough for the cable to go tru. I mounted the bolt to the foot throttle bar using the threaded side of the bolt and a nylock nut. ( I also cut the head off the bolt to make it a post. Then I ran my new cable tru the bolt into the original cable housing and out to the carb. I removed the old fastener from the throttle arm and installed the new fastner using a screw that was just long enough to reach the center hole and added blue locktight to it then I simply pulled the cable and tightened the outside screew on the fastner, It works like a charm and I'v had it on for 4 months wth no problems, I have a spare in the glove box if I need it but so far no problems, BTW it feels way smoother than the original.

you can get all this stuff for about 25.00.

According to my 64-72 Ford parts books, your truck with a 352 should have hard linkage. 65-66 were like this. The 240-300 6 cyl. had a cable. What is your serial number? Post it to see what the truck is supposed to have for an engine. Maybe a 352 was substituted for a 6 cyl.

barry, that is strange. My '66 F100 no longer has any stock engine parts but I purchased from a Ford dealer a replacement cable for the stock 352 application about 15 years ago. I do not remember having to explain or give any additional info to get the cable. The cable is/was part number C5TZ-9A758-AH, I wonder what gives??

I don't have my number here, but I posted my serial number before, and 2 people responded, one saying it wasn't a ford number, the other saying it was but for a deisel. I am pretty sure my truck was pieced together. It looks clean, but I think it might have been wrecked hard and peiced back together.

So the 6 cylinder had a cable?

Talking Bicycle Brake Cables Work

Hi,

When mine broke, I went to the local bicycle shop. Bought a brake cable, massaged and carved the little lead piece on one end, then replaced the whole doggone cable.

Was more pain than effort.

Total cost............ Less than $5.00

Enjoy.

PUtt, You're right. It's buried in the text, between all the 6 cyl listings. C5TZ-AH. I should have remembered back in the day, we carried C5TZ 9A758-AG and AH. AG was the 240-300 cable and AH was the V8. It's the 4x4's that are supposed to have mechanical linkage. Egg on my face!!

Hey, barry thats alright. Goodness knows I've done that more than a few times. Worked in a jobber store for 8-9 years. I wonder if that cable is still available?

66 Check (Motorhaven) (Parts Shop button at the top) we need to support the site first when we can. I know Carolina Classics carries them, one of out locals bought one from him not too far back.
