Paint Match Advice

If anyone can chime in on a durable matching paint for my red interior trim, I would appreciate it. The Colorbond rep said #64 Garnet GM? I find it hard to believe that there is not a Ford match to a pretty popular color? Then there is LMC who had it as "Dark Red", any luck with that being a successful match or any other ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I would not worry about it too much. Your plastic interior was several different shades of red when it came from the factory. Painting it all the same color will be a dead giveaway that it is painted.

I can tell you mine will be a dead give away as I have to paint everything as someone painted some of the panels I will use black and mine inside is red.

That makes sense, I'll just touch up the few bad spots and not sweat the slight differences. Thanks

The interior didn't really have different shades, but it appeared that way sometimes because different types of plastics were used.

But Franklin is on to something. If you try to paint a piece, it usually will not match other pieces that are 30+ years old. The only way for it look right is to paint everything.

Do you want it cheap or do you want it right?

The correct color of your interior is Ford Canyon Red, the same as mine. Ford used it from 1984 to 1987. This is a very unique color, as it has shades of red, orange, and brown. Aftermarket and "off the shelf" colors will always have more red in it than Ford Canyon Red and will not look right.

I just recently restored my entire interior with SEM interior paint. I went to my local PPG paint store and had them mix me up a batch of Ford Canyon Red. It was very pricey, but worth every penny because it turned out real nice and I really wanted the correct shade. For smaller jobs, you can purchase this:

I did something similar with a Taurus sedan a few years ago using SEM and can vouch for its effectiveness.

Thanks, Rick!
