I'll put together burger patties for everyone and pick up a bag of bright leafs. That'll do us pretty good. If HeavyDoc wants to add a side that would be great, or if James wants to bring one too.
We will grab lunch somewhere on the way up, Marty. I know I won't be able to go that long with out lunch. Let me know what time you want to head over.
If Josh has the burgers I'll bring a side and some snacks/desserts. Charcoal. Ice and water. Josh should have plenty of picnic accessories. I left enough plates, utensils, and other stuff at his house from last fall fling I couldn't make. I doubt y'all used it all.
I'll be there around 2ish. Plan to stay through dinner then will split shortly after to get back with the family.
Weather is looking great. Minimal chance of scattered showers. Temps in the 70's-80's. Pretty nice for August. Usually hot as crap and humid as heck.
apparently there is a bunch of rain and possible tropical storm so they postponed the "Nutrimax challenge". I'm still trying to clarify wether or not were still carrying on with a normal race or not.
As of right now best I can tell it's completely cancelled... I'll let yall know as soon as I know for sure. If the race is still on it will be a normal race and probally won't start tell 4.
Me and the wife camped last Friday night very near this event at Hawkins Creek Campground. We got invaded by ants bad! By midnight they had taken over. But we brought food, have a microwave, grill, propane stove and such. We had no choice but to pick up and move on. We ended out down at White Oak Shores in Stella. A tad bit of a drive, but was a much better setup if anybody plans to camp and bring food with you and cook. I suspect we wouldn't have had ant issues if we didn't have food / cooking items though. But cooking out is our thing when we camp.
But we ate at the Hubert deli Saturday morning for breakfast on the way out and our western omelet's weren't bad at all. Plus all you can drink coffee.
I've been meaning to come down to this event in Hubert for I've been to all the others multiple times ever since around 1995. Also been meaning to throw a truck together for this but haven't done that either. I can say that not much has changed about this sport in the past 20+ years except a bit more safety involved.
There used to be another one close to here we used to hit pretty often in Chinquapin NC. The latest videos I can find online of that place is 10 years old. Do they still race there?
Used to be a young kid (I say a kid 20 year ago) that dominated the unlimited 44's for he had absolutely "no fear". Was his jeep's name.
As a matter, there was ALOT of older guys with steel ***** back then. Seen some fascinating moves to save a catastrophe by pushing harder on the skinny pedal where as most of us would have been letting off of it.
And also, the Eastern crowd (My home bog was Willow Spring near Raleigh) all had a total different suspension setup. Was neat to see how the different setups worked. Nowdays everybody's gone completely different to 4 links and coil overs.
This sport is a "must-see" for anybody that's never been to an old fashioned Hill and Hole. And I'll join one of these years... Got a modified 300 6 cyl to build to get me started and a couple 460 street trucks to build. Had a 460 street back in the day that I ran once but it wasn't geared and didn't even make it out of the first hole.
Good times though! I'm guessing I've been to at least 100 races if not more. Used to be one every weekend somewhere different. And even multiple ones on the same weekend. The Willow Spring pits were dozed in like 10 years ago. It was the best one we knew back in the day but I haven't been to Hubert either. :-)
What? Dern. I just checked the weather. Looks like better than normal August weather. The chance of rain did increase slightly but it's supposed to be spotty all weekend. Totally typical for the coast in August.
Bummer dude.

Up north we only canceled a type of race, 10 trucks side by side, but not the racing and only 1 time as it was raining hard we could not get more than 1 truck on the track at a time so we just ran for times.
I remembered the first raced I was in it was march up in Maine. There was still snow on the ground and we raced thru a stream with water splashing over the hoods of the open Jeeps. I was so cold and ice on the safety belts I could not open them. Someone had to use a screw driver to pry the belt open.
I hear you racing in rain is no fun.
