Hello, tonight the weirdest thing happened, I was running up to the store (not towing anything, haven't for at least a month) and the trailer disconnected alarm went off and the trailer brake controller cane on. Doesn't change anything on the truck just super annoying. What could I do to fix this? Faulty connection somewhere?
Here is a thread with some discussion on this problem. I think there are some links and a few voltage checks in there somewhere. May be of some help. I believe the TBC can report fault codes also. A basic code reader won't see them as they are manufacturer specific. A professional scanner should report TCB codes if there are any. You can have stored codes without a check engine or wrench light on.
First thing. Go to the back bumper and take the back plug off the trailer
7-way connector and look for green fuzz. If you find that more than likely
you have also found the problem. Clean with contact cleaner and then
reassemble it with dielectric grease in the connector.
