I have read all the posts on TBC fault codes. I have a 2006 with the ndredded TBC Fault- TBC fault at start up, and when operating the brake controller manually. The TBC fault comes on with or without a trailer hooked up and even if the controller is unplugged(behind the controller in the dash). The brakes and trailer lights all work fine (using the controller). I was getting the annoying beeping and trailer disconnected message. I cleaned all the contacts and the beeping occurred less but did not go away. To see if the problem was a ground problem I hooked my jumper cables up to the frame of the trailer and the frame of the truck... no more trailer disconnected and beeping. Now that I know what to do about the beeping, I need to figure out the TBC fault. I have read every post on the subject and I do not know where the fault codes are stored or how to clear them. Since the controller is working fine with the exception of the fault code shown on the dash, I do not know if I need a new controller or just have the codes cleared. Any suggestions?
I had one at work doing that exact same thing. Fault at startup with no trailer connected. It was the controller itself. Not hard to change but I cannot remember the cost. Something about the internal self check goes bad with them and causes that error message.
