Code reader

I have an occasional miss in my truck, 95 F150 5.0. It doesn't bother me too much but would a code reader pick up a problem like this? Is the Innova 3145 decent?

A code reader will tell you if there are any codes set which should be the case if there is a sensor or module problem, if there aren't any codes that would tend to suggest the problem isn't EFI related but that isn't a 100% certainty. You don't really have any other options here either, realtime data isn't easily obtained from these early EFI computers.

The Innova 3145 will not show a misfire, its just a code reader(I have it). I do not even think a 95 ecu will send any misfire codes at all.

Now if its OBD2, then you can get misfire codes.

Hi,
I have the same code reader and even bought the extension cord so I can see whats going on inside the truck!

If you are seriously going to work on your own truck, they are a requirement!!!

a jumper wire will do the job, a code reader just makes it easier. if you buy a code reader i would consider the extension cord to be essential if you dont have a helper.

Thanks guys. I will get the extension cord with the code reader, thanks to ya'll. My helper still works so is not available too often.

Edit: I will also replace the plugs, wires, etc. to try and eliminate the miss in the engine.

In 1995 the PCM dose send out realtime data but not with a the Innova 3145.

No misfire codes with the Innova 3145, but the Innova 3145 will tell you the misfire with the engine balance part of the test.

Yes the Innova 3145 is a good code reader to get but it is not a scanner.
You need a scanner to get realtime data.
