Is there a label on the end of this?:

This is what would be helpful, but not absolutely necessary for what you're trying to do:

What you could use most is a factory manual & EVTM, either on CD or paper for 95 F series available on E bay.

There is a guy here that can cross reference the part (engineering) number that is actually somewhere inside the ECU if you open it up if the batch code label is missing.

Regarding post #14 connectors. Is the grey connector in first pic same connector as in second pic?

First pic: I believe the far right grey connector is either to gage cluster or climate controls. I think there are 2 or 3 connectors that go to the back of the gage cluster that are similar to this one, but I don't see additional similar connectors in pic.
The other 2 connectors I think (if the first goes to climate controls & because of proximity in harness) mount to underside center of lower dash of truck and are used to hook up a trailer brake controller for towing a trailer with electric brakes.
Hope this helped or I may be TOTALLY off.

not instrument cluster, i've already ID'd those. when i was at the junkyard yesterday i tried to get a better sense, but it is hard to tell since the harnesses are often already cut up. it looks like those connectors might live under the ashtray in the center, so maybe you're correct about trailer brakes. ??

thanks again

thanks for the 411 re: the ICM...

i was able to grab one (plus the heatsink) yesterday. the first two trucks i looked at ('95, '94) had already lost theirs (along with the PCM). i thought i might be out of luck, as the earlier trucks all had the gray unit. luckily i found the cross-reference and was able to find a black one in a '96 econoline with a 5.8.
