Dash clusters

Dash clusters
I swapped out my 1997 LX basic instrument dash cluster out for a 1992 XLT cluster with tach ect after plugging it in now I get a engine light and I have a bad Alternator.
Is this cause by the new used dash cluster I read they should be interchangeable.
The Alternator is not putting out any power at all just making sure before I install the new Alternator.

Short answer is yes they will physically interchange, but there are wiring differences between "groupings". The first symptom is the alternator no longer charges.....

Thanks for the link it said I need to re-pin the plug to get it to work but it dose not say how and what to re-pin.
So I just might have to put the old cluster back into the truck.
At least I don't have buy a new alternator after all.
