I have a 95 f250 4x4 the alternator was bad so i got a new one and put it on and it wasn't charging. so i got another harness and that didn't work. I just swiched the speedo cluster for one with a tach. i don't remember the year truck it was from but t was older would that be why the alternator doesn't ingage? please any info will help im at my wits end thank you
I'm sure you can find a way to keep your new cluster and have the alternator work, if that is the problem. I'm not an expert on the wiring of this truck but the alternator just needs a keyed power sorce. Your alternator is internally regulated so just find a key on power sorce and connect it to the battery with a relay.
Put the original cluster back in but the fuel pump just went out so i got a new tank and sending unit and the rear has a hole in it so i got a new one, i had one more thing to add when i installed the wrong cluster there was a little smoke and the electrical stuff went on the frizt but it was just a second and then it worked fine does anyone think it could have damaged and thing if so what ?
Well, smoke is never a good sign. These guys are right...need a same year cluster...apparently there is a difference in how they are pinned year to year and the biggest issue is with the charging system. I did mine but just to be safe stayed with the same model year and no issues (course I did mine with the battery unhooked...again out of paranoia I suppose but any time I am messing with electrical stuff I figure the 30 seconds it takes is time well spent). The electrical system is protected by fuses and fuseable links so in theory if everything is working properly, you should be alright.
