3g upgrade with voltmeter

Hello all, Very soon I will be upgrading to a 3G alternator on my 82 F100 4.9 (new alt from 92 Taurus) and I have already upgraded my ammeter to a voltmeter from RCC Innovations, but I never did clut the wire to the old ammeter. I think I should do that before I upgrade the alternator, but I guess i'm not sure if A) I need to, or B) where to to cut and cap it. It wouldnt be the end of the world if I had to pull the gauge cluster out again as one of the lights needs replacing anyways (or re-clean the terminal). Any suggestions?

You don't need to cut anything behind the cluster, it's all in the engine bay near the battery/solenoid.

yeah, never saw that before. I wired my voltmeter completely differently and left all the original wiring as-is, put rubber grommets on top of the original ribbon on the back of the cluster and ran a power wire from the cluster to a keyed on fuse and grounded it under the dash. When I pull the cluster to fix my dash light I'll follow his thread and redo everything. Thanks, that's an awesome write up!
