Remove glass from side mirror?

93 F250 XLT
My driver's side mirror is cracked. I have an entire replacement mirror housing but want to keep my original due to the xlt chrome finish (my other housing is straight black).

How do I remove just the glass mirror from the broken one and replace it with the replacement glass? I've pried it pretty hard to the point where I thought it would break so I stopped.

Any tips?

Might be easier/safer to swap just the chrome/black cap on the forward facing side.

Does that chrome cap come off? Hmm. I didn't think to try. Will check it out tomorrow.
