not knocking your suggestion here, just curious, With the tailgate locking now when you lock the doors - are tailgate thefts as big a deal anymore? I had a similar device on older model trucks because i would forget to manually lock the tailgate at times.

Its easy to open the cab doors (break a window) and once inside, hit unlock and the tailgate is yours. With this lock I'm covered all the time.
I did one of these too Jim. They just arrested a guy near me that they suspect had stolen HUNDREDS of tailgates in the area. He had numerous places buying them from him for pennies on the dollar.

Wow, that must have been quite the racket, and with an aluminum tailgate with a step ladder.............$$$$$$. So for under $30, I did my part, lol.

Most thieves won't go to all that trouble though, especially at risk of setting off an alarm. Usually they'll just move on to the next truck. In my area thieves are getting caught on camera all the time just going up and down the streets looking for unlocked doors. Unless they have a specific reason for getting into a particular vehicle they just move on till they find the easy target.
