Last weekend, I made the mistake of thinking we would have a little fun after doing chores the first 75% of the day Saturday.
Hooked up and drove the 30 mins to the lake for a little run about and maybe a swim.
When i walked around to unhook the straps and put the plug in, I smelled the hub. Bearings were gone. Hub shot. Axle Spindle shot. Ironically, I just lubricated everything the weekend before but I guess i got lazy since i did not raise the wheel off the ground and check bearings.
Boat footprint (width) is 96". That trailer is 102". Trailer dovetail ramp is 90" wide It barely fit and destroyed a set of 1500 lb ramps but i got it home. It was not fun with all the weight at the back of the trailer. Wife ran blocker in the expedition. Got some weird looks and some that stinks looks too on way home.
Took the opportunity and went ahead and did some maintenance on the trailer. New axle with new hubs, ubolts, and bearings tonight. Bolsters and lights tomorrow. Maybe i will try to swim saturday again.
That bites alright but it almost looks like me on my own rescue mission. On the bright side you had everything it took to git 'er done on your own, no humongous towing bill from a tow company.
Exactly what I said! My wife was fretting the destruction of the ramps. $99 that it cost to replace the ramps was a LOT less than what it would have cost to tow it back. The poor old ramps held up but took a tremendous bow on the loading. Finished the wrung off on one on the unloading.
