Hey guys, so a few of you know that I was going to be taking a job up in Williston, ND. The time has come to make the move so I am finishing up the preparations and will planning on heading out sometime this weekend. I bought a 24' gooseneck trailer that I will use to carry my 76 highboy and then my better half's Chevy Equinox on the second trip after my wedding. This thread will be a log of the journey and hopefully not a oh crap I need help thread.
I test pulled my Honda Civic about two hours North to Bonham, where my parents live. The truck did great, never getting above the O on the water temp, 1100 degrees EGT and averaging about 10 lbs of boost over the whole drive. I am getting the hang of pulling such a large (for me) trailer around in the city and I haven't caught a curb yet *knock on wood*
Anyway, here are some pics.
The Honda I dropped off at my parents' house:
The 4 wheeler I picked up to bring back to Tyler:
I'll update when I have a mileage number but I am not thinking it is going to be good. I think I was getting about 2/3 of the mileage compared to empty, so about 8-9 is my guess.
I am chasing down an exhaust leak which turns out to be a loose/misaligned clamp on the 2-piece down pipe. Once I get that straightened out, I will be golden! Getting everything liquidated and done with, and about 85% packed and ready to load up.
OK the day is tomorrow. I have developed an exhaust leak I tracked down to the joint between the turbo exhaust housing and the outlet flange (where the EBPV used to be). I felt the gas escaping with my fingers so I am sure that is where it is coming from. I put a curvy wrench (Not curvy wench, big difference) on all three 12pt bolt heads and tried to tighten them but they didn't budge, so I am guessing the bolt didn't break, so either the flange is cracked and I didn't feel it or something warped and isn't making a good seal anymore. Is that a common problem?!??!
Other than that, the truck is running great, staying within all parameters and not exceeding 1100 EGT even while maintaining 65 up a small hill at 10psi.
Omaha tomorrow, Rapid city on Tuesday, and Williston on Wednesday evening.
Dang Glenn! You should swing through Williston and say what's up! It'll just be like 10 extra hours of driving but you're retired so you have time right?
Just kidding, it would have been crazy if we just happened to cross paths while travelling across the country though.
Ya, that would really be something to cross paths. I had to stay in Vegas a few days extra or we would have been in the Black Hills by Tuesday. Safe travels!
