you just HAD to stay in Vegas a couple days, huh? Your craps table get hot for a while? Haha

I fixed the problem. One of my collector bolts fell out. Slapped it back in and no more leak! Woo hoo! Next stop, Omaha

Made it to Omaha! Trip stats:

Mpg:8-9
Trans: 190-220
Egt: 900-1100 never had to let out for temp.
Boost: 10psi in 3rd, 5psi in 4th. I might still have a boost leak somewhere but I'm still trucking so I'll tackle that one later.
h2o: never got above "R"

Overall, I'm impressed with the performance of the truck and trailer. It's riding awesome and seems to like going 65 in 3rd at about 2500rpm.

Now, cold ones, sleep, and head out tomorrow at the butt crack of dawn to see the Californian.

Nice man! You're close!

We Loved having you. You and I knocked that clutch out! I spent a lot of time driving in town trying to break it in nice and easy. I can't tell you again how much I appreciate making the stop and hanging for a day or two. You should be there by now.

OK all is well in the hood. I made it to where I dropped the trailer and then to where I am staying until the wedding. The only time I got rained on was when I was unhooking the trailer, which is kind of crazy because of the distance I traveled and the storm systems going through the area.

I fought the wind the whole way today. It was gusting out of the West, so pushing me to the passenger side. Truck ran great like it has the last two days, with all normal numbers and a smooth idle every time I stopped. Now, I am going to need to do an oil change and a little tire pressure maintenance before heading back for the wedding and all my (future) wife's stuff.

All I can say is that I am glad to be here and that we wrecked it last night with the clutch, wrapping it up at around 130 or 2am.

I'll post some pics and updates when I head to Texas on the 19th. For now, I need some sleep.

Glad to hear the truck is working good for you!

Wow I totally forgot to update this thread. Two months later, I have made another trip back to Texas, got married, picked up my wife's car and her things, came back up to ND and started work at NOV Downhole in Williston.

Pic:

During the trip back to North Dakota, I started noticing that I was using (or losing) coolant to the tune of about an inch per fill up in the degas bottle. I thought that the water pump, radiator, or one of the hoses had a super slow leak so after we got up here and settled, I replaced the whole coolant system after flushing the block. New waterpump, mishimoto rad, and Gates upper and lower hoses. The only thing I didn't change was the degas bottle because I couldn't find one.

I also finally sent my stage 1s in to Jim for a refresh after my torque failure and sold the used stock ones I had in the truck for the last 6 months or so. While I had the injectors out, I figured it would be a good time to do a coolant pressure test to make sure the cups were good. I pumped it up to 15 psi and checked it 15 minutes later, and it had dropped to 14psi. All good.... or so I thought. After I took the pressure tester back to Oreilley's, I purged the cylinders in preparation for re-installation of the glow plugs, popped the passenger side VC off, and low and behold some coolant had apparently squirted out of the cylinders and had sprayed the inside of the valve cover.

CRAP

Now, I have to get the tester again and see where the coolant is coming from and assess the damage.

Last night, after I gave up and was watching something on the Food Network, Byron gave me a call and we discussed what could have happened. Either the shop that rebuilt the engine before I bought the truck put the wrong sealant on the cups, one of the cups that they put in was cracked, or the block itself has cavitation and the shop didn't catch it.

OR it is actually diesel and I am freaking out over nothing.

I guess I will find out when I get the tester this afternoon. For my sanity and my wallet, I really really really hope I don't have to install new cups. That would suck.

Updates and pics to follow.....

I also don't know what to think of mine. I was losing a little coolant and my oil test showed sodium in my oil. The test report said look for a coolant leak. I was a long way away from a auto parts store so I just put a new degas bottle cap on and it stopped, for now. That report also said that there wasn't any glycol in the oil. I don't have a Fleet Charge bottle to read if this brand has glycol. Confuses me!

Ok... Coolant definitely getting into cylinder #1. How can I tell if it's coming from the cup or from a cavitated block?

If its bubbling around the top of the injector cup or on the inside of the cup its a cup. Cavitation on the head is not that common. On a block it will be hard to determine without removing the head.

I hate this for you bud, but like I told you, I am a short drive away. We'll get this handled one way or the other. Remember, it's only rubber and metal!!

The coolant is definitely getting into the piston but not through or above the cup. The weird thing is that the system will hold 14 psi for a half hour, but if I pump it to 15-16, it drops to 14 in a couple minutes and holds.

Head gasket??!?!??
