Hey guys sorry I don't really check the forum during the weekend.
SO. Recap of what all went down. First off, I wish I had seen Adam's post. My cup wasn't seated all the way so I had to pull the thing, clean the bore, and reinstall another cup. This time, I hammered it down with the installation tool and then put one of my injectors in and it torqued down just fine.
Anyway, I am going to give the sealant a couple days to cure because after waiting one day on this other cup, it hadn't completely set up probably because it is not warm enough outside.
Anyway, the cleaned up top engine harness went back in, and I tidied up some hose routing a little as well.
Yeah, I know! Its like waiting on parts to arrive. I might be looking at this job when I get home according to my last oil test. I've got 4K on this oil since I changed it but haven't used or lost any coolant this time like I did last time. Don't know what is going on? Hope the honeymoon is still going strong!
Ok guys, truck held 15psi overnight. All the injectors are back in, just need to pull the gps, purge, put them back in, and put it all back together!!! I am so freaking ready to get the truck running again.
Oh and I have to refill my transmission. Long story short, my trans cooler fell out of the bumper where I had left it and it dragged on the ground until it rubbed a hole in it... WHOOPS.
Shaffers and a 14000btu cooler were the fix for that.

My wife, three dogs and I went camping this weekend in the powerstroke. The campsite was about an hour and a half away in the national grasslands South of Williston. Everything was just fine until I looked down and the coolant temp gauge was slowly working itself over to the red. By the time I pulled over and shut the truck off, it had just kissed the hot side of the sweep. CRAP.
I called Byron but his clumsy self had broken his phone so he was AWOL. Glenn was my next call (Thanks man!) and he kind of talked me off a cliff consisting of about 50 gallons of gas and a flare under my truck
I was thinking blown head gasket because it was puking coolant out of the cap and the upper rad hose was hard as a rock, but when I went to climb up on the truck, I realized the radiator was cold!!!! What the heck! Brand new OEM Motorcraft thermostat, new coolant, fresh flush...
Fresh flush....
I didn't freaking burp the coolant system after I refilled it. The system was vaporlocked. I took a deep breath and let the truck cool enough to be able to run it without the cap, started it up, and about 5 minutes later, the coolant dropped about 2 gallons! YES!
We ended up getting to the campsite about two and a half hours after when we wanted, only leaving enough time to pitch the tent and cook before it got dark. No exploring for us this time. After a very, very windy night, coyotes, and what sounded like a straight piped cummins driving around the area, we woke to a cool morning. The truck started right up, idled great, and I left the cap off again to try and burp it some more. Coolant started pushing out of the degas bottle, making me believe that there is another bubble in there. We overheated again on the way home but I was able to open the thermostat by letting the upper rad hose loose a little and relieving pressure. Got us home in one piece but I lost all my antifreeze and I have no faith in that thermostat. I have a new 180 on order from Dieselsite that will be going in as soon as I get it in the mail.
Long post, crazy weekend, but I had a blast! Now, I need to go find some pheasants to shoot....
You had to work hard at burping that baby! Its funny how it works, the mule you just poured in the coolant and drove. The mare was hard to bleed out, sorta like yours but not as bad. The OX is a little stubborn but not bad at all. STEP AWAY FROM THE FLARE, LOL!
Ha thanks guys. Now I have to do it all over again after I drain the water and replace it with coolant.
Would it help if I filed the system up to the thermostat housing without the thermostat installed? Spitballing here.
No, it still needs to be pumped through the engine. The best way is to have it idling and keep filling it until it won't take anymore. That's been my experience anyway.
