I just want to throw this out there for anyone on the fence of SRW or DRW as I was.
I came from a 2001 F350 LB SRW, 4x4, CC, V10, 3.73's air bags. My big load is a 3400 pound Lance slide in camper.
I was unsure I wanted to live with a DRW but thought it would handle the camper better. Most post that it handles better.
New truck, 2017 F350 LB DRW, 4x4 CC. 6.7, 3:55's.
The difference is HUGE! No air bags needed, smooth ride, stable load, corners well, off road stable. It is night and day. There is no way I would go back to a SRW with a cab over camper.
I know there are those that do, I did for 16 years. Never again.
I agree, this is my first DRW truck as well. My SRW needed airbags and so far no need on the DRW truck. And it's no different to drive, just a little harder to park in a parking lot setting.
My 1st dually and I totally agree. Takes that wiggle out of your tow and makes you feel like your truck is "planted" to the asphalt. BIG difference and I'm (now) Towing a 45ft/21K 5er even easier than I did my prior 34ft/14K 5er.
Wifey who was totally against the dually look (prior), even has subsided and bowed to me as making the right decision. *Brownie points!*
BTW- I did have to put air bags on my dually, I'm sure most will not however w more normal sized rigs.
I did a review like others, but its in the camper forum section. This truck was such an improvement I can't wait to load it up and go.
It is also my daily driver and while it may be empty most of the time I had some short tows to its credit as well, one for work and one for play.
Great looking slide in camper and the GSD's...the dually and the toys ain't bad either!!!
Night and day difference towing this trailer with a DRW vs the F-250 SRW we were pulling it with. Glad I bought the '17 over the leftover '16 I was looking at. Very impressed with it so far. I drove military vehicles and semi tankers over 40 yrs ago but this is my second Super Duty but first DRW. I use it for my daily driver and no problems with handling and parking. Fueled up almost 2 weeks ago and showing close to 500 miles and 17.2 mpg...that's almost as good as my '13 F-150 Ecoboost.
well I can not do any gas mileage bragging, but I am happy with it. For my driving I am averaging 14.8 after 8000 miles.
The way this beast drives is a pleasure. Between the DRW, the adaptive cruise, the tow/haul that even affects the adaptive steering and the engine brake. Just load all your stuff and enjoy the ride. Even with all our 6% grades out west.
And the dogs ride in style
