Risks of dyno testing?

I have an opportunity to receive some non-engine related performance parts in exchange for the use of my truck for before and after testing including dyno runs. It sounds great but if anything breaks on the truck in the course of testing I'd be responsible for it, not the shop. I think the chance of something happening is small but it's definitely not zero.

I'm wondering what you guys think? Worth it or too much risk?

Thanks!

Have two GT500's, both were baseline dyno'd to establish drive train loss.
Both cars were modified by a top tier shop. The guy who owns the shop & does all the tuning used to work for Ford, as a tuner..
...........( they build & maintain race cars )
My 11 has 8-10 dyno pulls on it, the 14, 4-6.
You sign a waiver prior to, most shops require it, protects the shop.
Could something go wrong, sure, but it was a chance I was willing to take.
It does matter who & how the dyno is operated.
If you have reservations, don't..

your not saying what you have...would I dyno a 2008 to 2010 6.4 with 100K miles on it....heck no....why???

if you have a lot of carbon build up you could bend a valve
you could bend push rods
rockers that are worn could crack
you could spin a bearing
etc, etc

have the guy give you something you can use like a free 90K services which will basically replace all fluids and all filters

It's a 2008 with 70K miles. I'd be getting roughly $2,400 is performance parts in exchange for using the truck for testing. That's the only reason I'm considering doing it.

A lot of failed engines have performance stuff going on....

keep in mind the 6.4 in f-450s and f-550s are detuned by 25hp for added reliability.

if it were me...I'd ask for coolant filter, fuel filter such as air dog, oil bypass filter, and a complete service of all fluids and filters . That would consume 2400 or so.

I'm sure I know very little about it.

I'd be afraid to dyno anything...lol. I'd be puckered up big time if that was ever going on to my truck...hoping something terrible didn't happen...and if it did...filling my pants with the saddest kind of oatmeal.

If it's a reputable shop, it's probably going to be fine. Still, there are no guarantees.

There is nothing a Dyno will do to your truck that can not be done on the street period especially if its a inertia dyno. Maybe if its a mustang dyno they could out a load on it but your not gonna load like you can yourself pulling a trailer.

The question is the parts there adding, bolt on parts won't work if you are stock like a K&N filter or modified exhaust, if you do not have changes made in the pcm for these changes or a tuner that turns them off you will have issues.

Now if there adding a tuner this could push the envelope on some items, but your still talking about a 10-15 sec dyno pull still very hard to cause an issues. If its a reliable DIESEL SHOP you should be fine. Notice reliable Diesel shop not a auto shop trying to make a crossover. Its been my experience that if theres already a problem with the truck the dyno will bring light to that, personally id rather see it there then on the road, but basic mods which i think your referring to should not be a problem, my 6.4 has 6,900 hrs on it now and has had a spartan 210 tow tune since it had 285 hrs on it. Just this year I Installed bigger turbos on it to improve EGT's towing and ran around 20 pulls on a dyno before we liked the tune and results we got.
