rear wheel seal

rear wheel seal
I have to replace rear brakes on an 08 F350 dually, I understand that this requires me to change the rear wheel seal since I have to pull the hub in order to replace the rotor. When I went to the parts store not knowing what rear end is in the truck I bought both options for seals. Both are nation oil seals, one is part number 4278, the other is 100727. Which one is correct or are they each correct for a different axle?

Kinda thinkin, you shouldn't have to pull anything in the axle for a brake job. Many years ago but, I still say no.
They are disc and they are what they call "pilot discs as are the front".
Pilot discs aren't like old school brake jobs. They conform to the hubs and if not antisiezed on the inner flange and inside the bore where they marry up to the hub will have to be 10 pound sludge hammered off from under the truck. Ask me how I know.........almost tipped over two or three weeks ago doing this. (Truck fell while I was belting away)
You should be able to do this after removing wheel/cal/bracket, and it should be apparent. I'm sure they won't budge. Spray the hub surface mate with Kroil or PB blaster, Put 10,000 jack stands and all your tires under the truck and grab a piece of oak to protect the rotor and go to town.
I haven't done a dually in a while, but that's my two bits.
It's pretty much the same as a single rear wheel.
Remember the safety aspect. Frickers are heavy if your out of bench pressing form.

Unfortunately I don't have the truck easily accessible so I won't be able to get the code yet. Luckily the main issue was dragging front brakes so he said to hold off on changing the rear.... for now. Where might the tag be located on the axle, I crawled under th back to get a pic of the diff cover but didn't see the tag, wasn't really looking though.

Should be a 3 inch tag hanging on the toppish bolt.
It will give you the specs.
Door frame behind drivers door lower right should give you everything you need to research it.
You allready bought both seal kits from what I gather, so if all else fails, pull and compare.
They have to come apart anyway. If you did the fronts, the rears are in order.
