im at the point where i need air conditioning the georgia heat isnt too bad but having a defrost option and air conditioning would be a life saver.
ive been reading for quite sometime on the subject and im not trying to beat a dead horse. but the latest posts on ac are from 2008, im trying to figure out the best option before spending that amount of money.
nostalgic air parts have a behind the dash system for our trucks but i cant seem to find many good reviews on it and if theyre product has gotten any better. from what ive read most people go with vintage air but thats an under the dash style unit and id really like to do a behind the dash unit and put vents where the factory would have put them.
what ac system did you use? what are the pros and cons?
thanks in advance
I will most likely go with vintage air as the dealer and installer is less than a mile from my home... I am wondering if an installer can fabricate a system to make the Vintage Air work behind the dash.
Just do a vintagenair compact unit. Get adapters to go to the backs of your vents. The host unit is prob around 500/or less and select your control switch style. I would never do an under dash unit.
These guys get good marks as well. I took my truck to a custom shop to get the factory air fixed, he was installing nothing but Classic Air in other vehicles (stopped doing Nostalgia for same reasons you read).
I have a Vintage Air system in my truck. The ComPac Gen II fits completely behind the dash. You can certainly use the factory vets, though I used aftermarket ones for a custom look.
I'm glad I asked y'all before, cause I was moments away from doing the nostalgic air.
I'm leaning more towards vintage air now but I definitely
Need to give classic air a call before I move forward
I also live in the GA heat so I am intrigued to see what you come up with. I did the break down and it seemed like the Nostalgic AC kit seemed to best buck based components. Now Nostalgic AC was bought out and has a new owner who I have talked to and seemed to be very knowledgeable and making a decent effort to overcome the prior ownership pitfalls. Its the only kit that I know of that was built around our actual trucks. I hope you can piece together something that works for less then 1100 bucks I would be right behind you.
I have a heat only truck. I just put in a 347 crate and a 4r70w with Bauman Controller. So after thats broken in Air will be my next investment.
Where about in GA do you live? I live in Central GA.
i'll be using one of these kits in my 71. I talked to the dealer at the rod run, and I've talked to about five people who have them in their car / truck in the last few weeks and saw it in action. not one of them had any complaints about them.
The only way I'll be getting away for under 1100 would be to go the vintage air rout and buy some factory vents off eBay and cross my fingers to hopefully get it to work. I live in Gwinnett more so the Lawrenceville area and work in Decatur.
I'll have to check out the southernrods link as soon as I get home

i have been looking at the vintage air kits as well, im glad I ran up on this thread, my truck is factory air but it would cost me about the same if not more to replace everything factory. I live in southern Tn and just like Georgia it does get hot in the summer months. The southernrods units look very appealing. Would love to here from actual customers on the installation and how they would work in a dent side.
Quick.
im leaning toward the vintage air setup just from reviews i have read it seems to be a much better product. if i dont ill end up getting an old air product one of the hurricane models i will probably piece the kit together and get the biggest condenser i can fit. i know people have used the gen 2 compact and fits nicely, but if i can fit there gen 4 unit id much rather have that. has anyone on here fit the gen 4 in their dentside truck.
