Well, I've read a lot of threads on this problem! Try to do my own repairs, so I'm learning and not spending a lot of cash at repair shops.I have an 04 6.0 Super Duty Crew. Starting running rough on way home. Pulled over ,then it died.wouldn't start. Had towed home. Replaced ficm circuit board. No start. Replaced Harness,
icp...... ipr Sensors. Still no start. I noticed there is another circuit board inside ficm. Should I have bought the whole ficm unit? Thank you for your help! Tc
Need to check for codes and not throw parts at it first.
Do you have access to something that can scan for codes?
Then you are going to want something that can also read live data.
Myself I like the Scanguage 2 but others like the ELM and a smartphone or tablet.
The ELM can be less if you already have the phone or tablet to use with it.
Welcome to FTE, you came to the right place for help. There is a ton of knowledge here at your disposal from an awesome group of folks.
As Sean said, get something to tell us what codes you may have, and as Mark mentioned.........where is the ICP located. The 04 can be a unique bird in that they all have the early build pumps, but some have the late model wavy oil rail. If your ICP is on the passenger side valve cover.......it's the wavy rail and has more potential leak points for a high pressure leak.
Many folks like to download Forscan for free to a laptop, then get something like this ELM327 reader that plugs into the OBD port.
Forscan has some cool features as well that let you see more in depth.
Things like a scangauge II are great for monitoring data live, but a little less user friendly for scanning for codes, not that they don't work just not quite as well.
