Transmission temp

What is the average temp the transmission runs at? Wondering because it slipped the other day and the fluid smelt like it was burnt almost. Wanting to monitor it on my scan gauge and just try to ride it out as long as possible..

You might want to go and edit the subject line to have the word slip in it.
To change the subject line >EDIT>Go Advanced.
Then you will be able to edit the subject line.

I think you will find you get more responses that way.

There is a thermostat in the transmission that tries to keep the trans at 165-170°F.

wow that is interesting.

mine would typically stay between 145 and get above 175 makes sense knowing that there's a thermostat

Thank you! If the scan gauge is correct it was running around 160 degrees on a half hour drive home tonight. Is that temp still okay?

I blew past this 1st time through this thread. But that is pretty warm... If by chance you are getting that reading off of Torque, there is a problem in the PID for the Trans Temp. You need to edit the Gauge, drop down to OBD Header and change it to TCM from Auto. It will then read the correct trans temp.

Unless your coolant reads super low???

Hope it is the header thang...

Scott

I won't argue with Mark in the slightest bit, but from what someone told me once, and they could be and are probably wrong 100* + ambient air temp is normal.

Mark....any input?
