I did give the valve train a thought.
IIRC they have no adjustment like GM unless someone changed them out.
Now you could have wear and causing the noise.

https://youtu.be/hCd8Z1FgK-0 you can hear the noise here. I definitely have some noise from the valve train but you'll notice in the video how under a load it gets louder
Okay question one does is the knock consistent or is it random pattern two secs you here it three seconds later it is gone. What happens when you put it in gear?

it's consistent. When I put in in gear it puts the engine under a load and gets louder
Ok so here's an update: I pulled the valve covers off and all the rocker arms are tight and all the springs appear to be in good shape. Pulled and checked all the push rods on the drivers side and I found one push rod that I'm kinda suspicious of but I'm not 100% sure if it's bent or not. I haven't pulled the passenger side push rods yet to inspect them but as soon as I got off of work I'm going to pull the passenger side push rods and inspect them.
does anybody have any suggestions as to what I should check after push rods? I've already ran the rod knock spark plug test twice so I don't believe that I have rod knock.
Also I did notice that when the engine is running that 6 out of 8 push rods where spinning on the drivers side. Being as this is my first time tearing into an engine, spinning push rods don't seem normal to me.
To check for bent push rods get a piece of flat glass and roll the push rod on it.
If you hear a tic, tic, tic it is bent. It should sound like a marble rolling on the glass.
As for the rods spinning cant tell you. I would say spinning is good but???

after I check the passenger side push rods I'll recheck the drivers side ones using glass instead of the piece of sheet metal that I rolled them on. My fingers are crossed that it's something in the valve train.

ok so the push rods seem to check out to be good. I did just notice while running the engine that the oil pressure is running higher then normal. What could be causeing that? I'm all out of ideas as the what could be making the noise.
