need help with tail light harness plug/trailer light harness

I m trying to install a trailer light kit that plugs into the factory taillight harness so that I will not have to cut up the factory harness . Problem is that I can't get the tail light harness plug apart to install it . Is there a trick to it or a tool that is needed ? I was pulling hard enough that I worried that it was going to break so though i should ask .

https://www.etrailer.com/Custom_Fit_...ha/118313.html that is what I am trying to install .

I am sure there is a locking mechanism to the plug there always is. And once you get a little screwdriver in there and pry on the locking mechanism it will break, they always do.

Yup that is typically what happens . The tabs seems pretty tough but its old plastic and probably brittle . It has a tab on both sides and is pretty hard to get at to pull on . Was hoping there was a way to avoid breaking the tabs .

Sometimes you can slightly open them up enough to clear. But not the end of the world if they break. Connector will stay together by itself.

Got it done without breaking to much of it . I cut a couple small pieces of plastic from the hang tag for a single socket and filed them down . Pried up the tabs carefully and wedged them open . Pulled right apart . Did break one side of one of the clips but better than how it typically goes .

I noticed while checking the trucks lights that the drivers side turn signal is a good bit slower than the passenger side . It is the same speed for one or two blinks then slows down . Not sure if it was like that before but i don't think the trailer light harness would cause that .The left side dash indicator has been burnt out for years, would that have anything to do with it ? I have new bulbs but can't get the head light and washer ***** off to get the gauge cluster bezel off . I looked up how to do it and they are not built the same way it seems . There is no clip on the washer **** and no button to release the head light switch or a clip that I can find .
