Yesterday I received my trailer light plug-in adapter. Hoppy 40115 FORD Pickups (all sizes & Bronco) '80-86 at OutdoorPros.com It's one of the hopkins plug-ins that you plug into your wiring harness and then have the harness to hookup trailer lights. I ordered this because a PO did a hack job installing the trailer wiring before and I wanted it to be done right. Well, I put it in and hooked it all up and discovered one of the wires (the one that operates the passenger brake light (I think it was orange and black)) broke off RIGHT at the plug. So there's nothing for me to strip and solder and get to to try and fix/reconnect it. Fortunately it's the plug that's on the side that goes to the tail-lights and license plate lights and not the one that goes to the front of the truck. I would think replacing the entire harness would be easier than cutting up what's currently there and soldering on a new plug.
I looked on LMC and my local craigslist and my local junkyard and there just aren't many 80-86 F series or Bronco's out there. So I'm stuck. Anyone have any suggestions on where to get a replacement? I can jump the plug for the time being to have the light operate but I don't want this as a long term solution.
The rear light harness is different between 1980-1982/3 and 1984-1986 as well.
The ground wire was moved from the bed to the frame. Something to be aware of when getting a new one from the wreckers. Both should theoreticly work and swap, though you might have to drill a few holes for the new grounding points if they don't match up.
thanks for the input. found a member on here parting out an 85 Bronco who would send it to me for $20 shipped. Think I will probably go that route. I'm almost positive a Bronco is the same.
What I would to, is Find another plug, and cut the wires off on it about 2" from the plug, and then use butt conecters to hook it to your harness. I've done it a few times without any problems. I have several parts truck, so I could get you a socket, but if you want a whole harness, I have one for a 82.

Here are some pics to go with what I'm talking about: The first pic will show you the orange and black that's broken. That stupid blue add a line clip was added by a PO. It's the male side of the plug that's broken.
