I just installed the Donaldson B085011 filter last night. I understand the swoosh noise when shifting is normal. But, I noticed a chirpping when coasting. I first suspected suspension parts maybe but after reading on here could it be surge? I've seen some videos of what surge sounds like and it does sound like that but most people say it only happens under load and I'm hearing it just coasting down my farm market road to a stop sign without hauling anything. I'm researching billet compressor wheels now. Am I on the right trail to resolve this? TIA!
That's what I thought. I didn't hear it while out driving it at lunch today. Feel like I'm chasing a ghost at the moment. Will report any other unusual noises if they present on the ride home.
Do you have to take the housing off to assess the play?
No, pull the intake off and the turbo intake tube (that is the technical term for the last piece of intake tubing). That will expose your compressor wheel and you can push, pull, up, down and side to side it and see what it does. You could also be able to see/feel if the wheel hits the housing. Slight (very slight) side to side/up and down play is acceptable, the oil has to have some gap there to get around.
Ok I will check the play. The chirping/squeeking noise was noticeable on the drive home off the throttle with Windows down. In the throttle at highway speeds it sounds like paper shredding (not what I would call the pleasant sing of turbo whistle). The whistle is there after the shredding sound stops. Not sure if that's considered normal of the 6637 filters.
Also, air intake sensor reads 125degrees at idle when I left it running to go pick up the kids from daycare. Is this harmful? Do people with 6637 never let it idle or is it harmless the little it happens? Texas summer is just beginning so I imagine that 125 could get even higher.
I dont think 'upgrading' the compressor wheel is a good idea for trucks with stock injectors. We've actually seen decreased performance compared to stock wheel... On the (very few) trucks that actually have surge, changing exhaust housing or going to the E99 ('WW1') usually solves the problem.

Oh, dang really?! Good to know. I do have stock injectors. I shy'd away from the WW1 because I read it decreased air flow.
I'm learning more about the noise's tendencies as I drive it more. Don't think its turbo related now. Wheel shaft has no play. I think the presence of the squeak and the new air filter set up may have just been coincidence now, making the title of this thread irrelevant. It sounds like its coming from driver wheel well area. I sprayed all my leaf springs with WD 40 and silicone to no resolution. I want to say its there regardless of bumps so maybe not suspension. It is present going straight. It is only present during driving, so not the belt. I checked sway bar bushings and there's no play, look pretty good. Ball joints are on my to-do list (passenger upper boot is shot) and I plan to do all u joints as well but don't think this chirp/squeak noise can be sourced to those. Last time I rotated the tires couple months back, there was no play in the wheels.
I'm trying to upload my video from last night but its .mp4 format and the forum says its an invalid format.
