Tips for replacing/cleaning upper intake???
I spent the better part of the day removing the upper intake on my 1988 E150 with a 5.0. Now that i know how to take it apart, it should go back together much faster after I get it all cleaned up.
What is the best way to clean the upper intake and throttle body while it is off the engine?
I will be replacing the EGR and TPS while I have it apart. I am guessing that you have to pre set the ohms on the TPS because it cant be reached once it is installed.
How tight does the EGR tube have to be? I know it isn't near as tight as removing it! I had to buy a long 1-1/16 wrench and torch on the nut to get it to come off.
Any other tips would be appreciated. Things i need to watch out for and things that would make it easier. I removed the throttle plate and EGR before removing the intake. I think it can all go back put together.
Is there anything I need to do as far as maintenance while it is off?
Seems I remember a screen down in the lower intake where the PCV valve goes that needed to be cleaned out on my 1990 Town car with a 5.0
Thanks
Anna
Oh, I have brake cleaner and de-greaser on hand as well as a high pressure spray car wash right up the street. Would it hurt to wash the parts at the car wash?

You are correct Conanski, I checked after you posted! I didn't get much at all done today. there were some squirrels living around the engine years ago and so I used a brush and vacuum so suck up all the dirt and nuts shells I could before removing the right valve cover. While cleaning the valve cover with brake clean, half the paint came off so my task tomorrow is to repaint the VC.
there is a little rust in spots, should I worry about that or just wire wheel and paint with high temp paint. Should I use primer, if they make a high temp primer that I can buy locally.
