Cleaning the Intake/Throttle Body
I have heard several suggestions on power being restored by cleaning the Intake and the throttle body. What is involved with Taking the throttle body off and the intake it self? I know that you have to use something specified for TB's so you dont strip the butterfly valves, But what is safe for the use of the intake?
Any suggestions ORRR pictures would help a ton.
Thanks
That being said, the intake gets dirtiest from the EGR gases being blown through it. It makes sorta this sooty/greasy coating. The only way to clean it is simple soap/degreaser and water with a brush or bottlebrush. One you can get rid of afterward if you wanted to. All you do is scrub away, and it'll come clean.
The TB shouldn't be too dirty, if it is use a soft cloth and mild cleaner and wipe it clean. You can clean the whole assembly without taking it apart, so I'm not sure what you're worried about when you say 'stripping the butterfly'.
While you're in there, check out the EGR spacer for signs of corrosion from the water passages, and throw on some nice new gaskets.
Good luck,
Ben
