I just installing a new oil pan, now I need to reinstall my upper intake. The engine idles ok. The eight intake ports all have dripping oil in them, should I clean it before install? Why is there oil in the intake?
If I need to clean it I guess would I remove the throttle body before using carb. cleaner in the intake? Should I clean the throttle body to before installing to the intake?
Is there anything else that I need to clean before installing the intake?
yes remove the throttlebody, but do not spray the throttlebody with carb cleaner. there is special cleaner for throttlebodys. oil in the intake is due to your pcv valve not working properly. change that while you have the upper intake off its much easier.
I would clean the upper intake since it is off. I tried cleaning mine several years ago and the carbon buildup was so stubborn it took hours using a variety of cleaning agents. If I were to do it again I would take it to a engine rebuilder and have it cleaned in there hot tank setup.
My auto parts supplier says they don't make the cleaner for ford T.B. any more. They have something like teflon in them to keep them clean. If you use the regular cleaner you might have to clean it more often.
A coating of carbon isn't going to hurt anything. There's just as much on the pistons and head. Don't try to clean the TB or you may ruin it. There is a coating inside the TB that can't be removed (should be a sticker on it) or the engine won't run right.
I'd say clean the intake lightly and put it back on.
