Remote Start Options
Now there is a Ford long-range solution, and can even be done as a bi-directional kit. For the 11-14 F-150 you can get the following items if you want bi-directional:
- DL3Z-19A361-A
- DL3Z-15603-C
- DL3Z-15K601-A (if you want more than 1 FOB just order more of these)
- DA8Z-15603-A (if you currently don't have remote start on the truck)
The nice thing about this kit is, unlike aftermarket remote starts, it is entirely plug-and-play. That means no wire splicing involved at all. Also the functions are controlled in the driver information display menu, so it completely integrates with the truck same as the factory remote start. This kit also upgrades the alarm to give you a shock sensor. I like this option much better than the aftermarket, mainly because for too many years I've chased down too many crappy alarm and remote start installs that have hacked the factory wiring and caused all sorts of issues. They're fine if they are installed correctly, but that seems to become more and more rare these days. Most Best Buy's and stereo shops keep using those scotch-lock connectors that fail all the time, and they use them so they can advertise "free" installs. Sure, that free install is done in 20 minutes, and will cost hundreds of dollars down the road in wiring repairs and electrical diagnostics.
As for the Forscan vs IDS, I can only speak for IDS. Never used Forscan and I personally don't have a need for it. But to each their own. Then again I work with a lot of Ford dealers so I get the access to IDS that most people don't.
Anyway, hope this info helps everyone.
FORscan is just more user friendly. It also has options that IDS doesn't.
Normally to add SKIM keys, you do need 2 working keys, but if you have to use Forscan to set remote start, there should be the option there to add keys.
Though I have not done it.
I only had one key when I got my used truck, a neighbor ford tech brought home a "work pc notebook", hooked up to the obd2 connector and was done in less than 4-5 minutes. Added 2 keys to the system. I don't know what program or software he was using.

Lowes had done some for me before, 1 time even free, but I guess no more.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
I take NO credit for any of the following information, but with that said it took me hours of scouring forums to piece this all together.... so... I thought I'd start a thread so that if the next person searches for, will find everything they need to know all in one place, in one post, instead of bits and pieces scattered across a thousand posts and multiple forums (LOL).
This was done on my 2011 F-150 XLT, but I don't know of any reason why this wouldn't work on any 2009-2014 F-150 that has no remote start to begin with:
STEP 1:
Parts Needed:
DL3Z-19A361-A (VSS)
DL3Z-19A390-B (RMU)
Available as a 'kit' here from LevittownFordParts: https://www.levittownfordparts.com/m...al-p-6313.html
Cost (at time of this post): $355 + Shipping = $370-ish
Additional Items Needed:
- Install Forscan Application for Windows (free download @ Download FORScan)
- Register an account on Forscan.org (needed for next part, and is also free)
- Generate 'Extended License' at forscan.org here: FORScan forum ? Login (also free)
- OBD II Connector (Cheap is fine... you do NOT need the MS-CAN capabilities, I bought a WIFI OBD II Connector on amazon for $17 here:
STEP 2:
Install/Initial Config: Literally took me about 15 minutes, instructions here: https://www.levittownfordparts.com/d...1_23_2015_.pdf
NOTE: The relevant pages are 135-140 & 152-155; ignore the rest of it on Page 155 about 'RMU Activation' and 'VSS Learning' since the VSS was already learned on page 140 the first time. Just install the two units and then 'Learn' the VSS to the vehicle once.
STEP 3:
Using Forscan, change the following BdyCM Values:
- In 726-19-01, change 0047 (disabled) to 0148 (enabled)
The settings to enable remote start are found in the Body Control Module (AS BUILT format)
Using Forscan, change the following IPC Values:
- In 720-01-02, change 6C0A (disabled) to 6F0A (enabled)
The Instrument Panel Cluster settings are found in the IPC Module Configuration (AS BUILT format)
(NOTE 1: This change is not NEEDED for this to work, but it is a nice touch to have it show up in your display under 'settings vehicle remote start'
(NOTE 2: Here is a great document (tutorial) about using forscan, including backing everything up first BEFORE making any changes... highly recommended!: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1...it?usp=sharing)
STEP 4: Reach out to Benny at Levittown Ford Parts telling him you are ready to go. He will do everything needed from there over the phone and it will take all of 15 minutes or so (usually). He is absolutely fantastic, and I wouldn't recommend anyone else.
STEP 5: Download install Ford Remote Access App:
- iOS: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ford...587040067?mt=8
- Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...ess.ford&hl=en
From there you should be all set! Hope this saves the next person some time and anxiety trying to figure it out!
Cheers Everyone!

I'm going to give it a try too.
