Turning the oversized bushings. The turned bushing and the unturned bushing. What I started with (springs relaxed)... And what I have now (springs loaded). There she be!
Finally finished up the rear end and will be starting on the front soon. I am also gonna be starting on some of the body work soon.
Oh, and I forgot to mention earlier that I started the ol cummins yesterday on the shop floor, boy does it sound good! The guy I got it from said that it only has 80,000 miles.
Howdy guys, I figured it was past time for an update. So here It is.
This is...... What I ..... Started with. Original suspension. I got all the dirt and grime cleaned off the axle. Now I'm ready to clean all the old paint off so I can paint it. The new suspension.
Update. Sorry it's been forever guys, I've just been working my tail off.
Prepping the axle... All prepped and ready for paint... All painted up. I decided to install a power-lock in the front. My homemade diff armor and drain plug (not welded on permanently yet, the drain port is just a 1/2" pipe coupler). My old stub shafts were shot where the Torrington rides them. So I upgraded to 35 spline chromoly stubs. And the new 35 spline hubs to go with the stubs. The power-lock permanently installed.
Alright guys, got the truck back on all 4. Now it's time to rebuild a tranny and reseal a motor. Then it's time for the swap! I'll keep y'all posted.
What I started with. . . What I have now. What I started with. . . What I have now. There it is. And yes, the stacks are new (to me) to. Picked em up for $250.
Nice work! This is still my favorite Ford body style I think. And yours is really looking good! Looks like it was taken care of most its life. Keep up the good work and updates.
I agree; one of the best styles Ford has ever done. And your truck is looking great. I think those 33” tires look perfect under her. Thanks for all the pics, I’m enjoying watching your progress.

Thanks guys! I appreciate the support! It's definitely my favorite body style of fords (or any body's for that matter)! It was pretty well taken care of. The driver's side is a little bent, but not bad. I'm going to be fixing that though and painting it. Yeah, I like it with the 33s. My dad has a set of old 35s sittin around, so I'm going to throw em on sometime just to see how it sits with the 35s. I'll definitely keep y'all posted on progress as best as I can! Thanks again!
Alright, update guys. So the story goes like this. When I finished up the front, I noticed that the drivers side seemed to sit WAYYY lower than the passenger side. A few measurements confirmed that the drivers side sat an inch lower than the passenger side. At first I thought it was the springs. But a top of axle to bottom of frame measurement indicated that the frame is level on the axles. I finally traced it down to body mount bushings. They're all shot, but the drivers side is worse than the passengers side. So I'm doing polyurethane body mounts. And while the cabs up, I decided to go ahead and pull the bed, clean up and paint the frame, and double the frame. So the swap has been pushed out a little, seeing the new body mounts will change clearances. I'm also going to redo my overload perches while the bed is off.
