Hmmm

So they are saying in the Holley instruction book to leave the nipple on the electric choke open, without connection, and cap off the open vent line on the air horn? Odd. Why wouldn't they just have you connect those two up for pulling filtered air thru the choke? I mean if that's the case, then why even put a vacuum nipple on the Holley's choke at all? Weird.

I cannot for sure say that the shown application sheet applies to all vehicles as there may have been more that one kit released. I was also under the impression the kits were FORD MOTORCRAFT, not HOLLEY. Kinda makes you wonder if they were C.A.R.B. approved.

That being said-

8) Choke Clean Air (Not Applicable)
I personally would retain the vent as to cool the heated choke cap.

Where are you? Do you have to pass a stringent emissions testing?

What I am getting out of it, this retro fit is using a full electric choke, not the assist type that Ford used. So they are not pulling hot air through the choke housing. Like I mentioned before, the air is not to cool the choke, the Ford system used the hot air to activate the choke, the Ford electric assist along with this just accelerates the choke opening above 60 degrees F.

Zonker - the one thing I can't tell is if there is a cool air inlet anywhere around the choke cap. To the right of the cap, I see some metal coming out from behind the choke mech. Is that any sort of vent, or is it blocked off ?

The way this choke works is
a) an electrically heated spring in the phenolic choke cap
b) an internal choke pulloff piston and linkage setup getting it's vacuum from a passage in the carb body to a below throttle plate manifold vacuum source
c) there is a threaded heat riser tube inlet just like the older non electric choke caps, but instead of a asbestos sleeved hot air tube from a manifold heat source, a fitting with a 30 degree angle in the tube and a barbed vacuum nipple is threaded on.

Not a vent, they are lead plugs that seal off machined ports and one seals off an adjustment screw for the choke pulloff piston.

I typed out a lengthy reply and explanation of choke operation(s) and when I hit REPLY, it shot into the ozone.

Let me redo and re-post.
