"The Shakes"

Hi Folks,
On my 1994 f-350 dually idi turbo it will start smoothly and run and drive smooth but when I cut the engine off the front end gives off a good shake as the engine stops...any ideas on this?
I have not crawled underneath it to look at the motor mounts closely but could this be a motor mount problem?

Natural to diesel engine as fuel is cut and imbalances are created as cylinders stop firing.

I dont notice it, but ive had several passengers comment that mine feels like it "locked up" when i shut it off just because it stop so suddenly. Probably just the momentum of the rotating assembly coming to a stop when it hits the cylinder on compression. Since there is alot of compression, it STOPs lol. My theory anyway. Could post a vid, but im betting its normal. Food for thought, most gas engines build around 150-170 psi just at cranking speed, an IDI is building between 400-500psi.

Thanks folks, that is good news. As soon as some of this rain ends I will crawl under there and take a close look at the motor mounts just to be on the safe side.
I went from a 2000 7.3 powerstroke to the 94 IDI turbo, mostly because it seems easier to work on and is cheaper to buy parts for. However, when I use to cut the Powerstroke off it didnt seem to shake as much, so I was kind of concerned.

One thing of note is that if it's a manual, you probably have a DMF - the flywheel is actually in two(very heavy) pieces that rotate a little with springs to provide the thrust.

The free-play between the pieces means that when the engine stops suddenly, the back half of the flywheel bounces back and forth a bit off the springs, producing a definite clunk and shake.

SMF-converted trucks tend to do that less, but have their own issues - mainly rattling in neutral due to the diesel pulses(especially if the motor isn't running perfectly smoothly), and low-RPM gear noise.
